You’ll begin with a 40-minute presentation exploring truffles in North America, including native and cultivated species, where and how truffles grow, the role they play in the landscape, and how trained dogs have become an important part of ethical truffle harvesting.
Next, we’ll spend 30 minutes exploring scent detection training and the practical realities of working with a truffle dog. You’ll learn how scent-detection training is approached, what goes into building a successful dog-handler partnership, and what truffle hunting looks like beyond the training field.
The workshop also includes an aptitude assessment for your dog, offering an opportunity to observe their interest in scent-based work and learn more about whether truffle dog training may be a good fit for you as a team.
